Every R1 of a R5,000 deposit-match: what wagering really costs across 9 SA bookmakers, Updated: July 2026

Nine South African bookmakers ranked by what it really takes to clear a welcome bonus.

TL;DR

Methodology

This comparison uses the bets.com.au brand-bonus API for promo codes and headline offer text, referenced at https://api.bets.com.au/api/brandbonus/all.

Wagering inputs come from a pre-compiled wagering-terms dataset that cross-references each brand against three or more secondary sources, then checks terms against the operator pages where available.

For the top three brands by clearing-effort rank, we cross-checked wagering terms against at least two independent sources per brand: Lulabet sources include Afrik-Foot and BetSeeker; Betway sources include Betway bonuses and SportyTrader; Supabets sources include OnlineBettingSA and Bettors.

We do not simulate outcomes or expected value in this article. We only model the turnover required by each brand’s published wagering terms.

Modelling assumptions

Excluded brands

Three major South African brands are excluded because they were not returned by the bets.com.au API on 7 July 2026: Hollywoodbets, Sportingbet and WSB.

Ranked analysis: what the numbers mean

Easiest to clear: Lulabet and Betway

Lulabet ranks first because the modelled deposit is only R250 and the turnover target is also R250. That is 1.0x effort in seven days, with a low minimum odds threshold of 1.70.

This is not a true R5,000 deposit-match. The cap matters, but the friction is genuinely low when you only use the capped amount.

Betway ranks second because wagering is on the deposit only, not deposit plus bonus, and the multiplier is 3x. The model requires R3,000 turnover over 30 days, which is R33.33 per bet at three bets a day.

The 5% bankroll benchmark for a R1,000 deposit is R50 per bet, so the pace can fit disciplined staking if you stick to 3.0+ odds. This is why Betway is the cleanest deposit-match in the mid-range segment.

Mid-market: Supabets, Easybet, Betfred, TicTacBets

The mid-market group sits between 3.0x and 5.0x effort, with turnover targets from R15,000 to R25,000. These offers can be workable, but the calendar and minimum odds do most of the damage.

Supabets asks for 3x on the bonus at 2.0+ odds, which turns a full R5,000 match into R15,000 turnover in 15 days. That is R333.33 per bet at three bets a day, above the 5% benchmark of R250.

Easybet requires 4x wagering on the deposit at 2.0+ odds, which is R20,000 turnover in 30 days. The 30-day window gives the bettor room to keep per-bet stakes near the 5% benchmark.

Betfred also lands at R20,000 turnover, but the seven-day window forces near R1,000 stakes at three bets a day. Its minimum odds are 2.50, and its singles-only rule can tighten variance planning.

TicTacBets is the hardest of this middle tier at R25,000 turnover in 14 days, and it needs 3.0+ odds. You are betting about R595 per bet at three bets a day, which breaks a strict 5% rule.

Trap tier: Yesplay, 10bet, playTSOGO

These offers look large, but the maths becomes hostile once wagering is set on deposit plus bonus, or the multiplier rises into double digits. The result is a turnover target most bettors cannot fund inside the validity period.

Yesplay requires 7x wagering on deposit plus bonus at 1.9+ odds, and the terms apply inside seven days. In this dataset that means R42,000 turnover and about R2,000 stakes per bet at three bets a day.

10bet uses an 8x multiplier on deposit plus bonus at 2.0+ odds across 30 days. That still implies R80,000 turnover, which is near R889 per bet at three bets a day on a R5,000 deposit.

playTSOGO is the outlier at 20x wagering on the bonus at 3.0+ odds in seven days. The implied turnover is R100,000, and the pace demands more than R4,700 per bet at three bets a day.

Excluded from this analysis
